Always tell your parents or guardian when you go online. If you are at school tell your teacher.
Never give anyone online your home address, age, telephone number or even your email address. If someone online asks for any these
detatils tell your parents or another responsible adult. If someone repeatedly asks for these details you need to think about why they keep asking when you. Remember the person on the internet may not be who they are claiming to be. Sometimes nasty people invent very convincing stories about themselves so that they appear harmless and friendly.
Never agree to meet anybody you are in contact with through the internet. If someone asks to meet you always inform your parents or
another trusted adult. Tell them as much about who it is that's asking to meet you and also how and where this person contacted you. If your parents agree that you can meet this person you should still only go ahead if your parents or trusted adult goes with you to the meeting which should take place in an open and public place. Our own opinion is that online friends are best kept as online friends.
Only use chat rooms that have live moderators. If someone says anything to you which you think is a threat, is nasty or makes you feel
strange or frightened inform the moderators at once and inform your parents or a trusted adult.
Do not open emails from senders you don't know especially if they have attachments. Many emails will be offers from companies trying
to sell you something but some may contain nasty pictures or bad language. Others may contain viruses that can damage your computer.Again if you receive an email you aren't sure about or if you open one and don't like what it contains inform your parents or trusted adult immediately. |
